Kodiak & Katmai, Alaska

Adventure Quest Logo

Alaska calls to those seeking the splendor of an untouched wilderness. Full of spectacular locations for nature and wildlife enthusiasts and photographers, Kodiak and the coast of Katmai National Park and Preserve serve as the setting for the ultimate Alaskan adventure.

Brown Bears

The bears that inhabit Katmai National Park and Preserve are brown bears (Ursus arctos).  About 2,200 brown bears are estimated to inhabit the park, making Katmai one of the premier brown bear viewing areas in the world.

Noted as some of the largest bears in the world, adult male brown bears in Katmai can weigh over 1000 lbs (454 kg) at their heaviest in the fall and typically weigh 600-900 lbs. Adult females average about 1/3 less than adult males.

From our vantage point either aboard the boat or ashore with our experienced guide from a careful distance, we have the ultimate access to safely view all kinds of wild bear behaviors and activities.

Trip Highlights

With a maximum of 10 passengers, we’re able to safely approach the bears and other wildlife with the least disturbance, allowing us to respectfully witness and photograph natural behaviors. A typical excursion has us following the bears along the shoreline as they fish for salmon, dig for clams, and stroll along the beach. With our experienced guide, onshore excursions will put us exceptionally close to the action. Other wildlife that may be seen include gray wolves, sea otters, bald eagles, harbor seals, sea lions, puffins and other coastal seabirds, and possibly whales.
